"Positively" February 2008
"Positively"
There are so many things that make our school a great place to be — as a staff person, a parent, and, especially, as a student. The number of positive events and activities is a source of pride, whether they happen at school or involve a St. Jerome student outside of school. The purpose of “Positively” is to share some of those happenings and to allow you to share our pride, and to celebrate the possibilities when we live with a “can-do” spirit.
February 2008
The good stuff just never ends around St. Jerome School!
Lots and lots of “Locks for Love”
Once again, we are happy to share the news that two more young ladies at St. Jerome School have donated their hair to the “Locks for Love” program. This organization accepts hair donations of 10 inches or more and uses it to make natural wigs for women going through cancer treatment. Thank you to Aryana Gagne in K-2 and our Physical Education teacher, Miss Katie, for being so kind and generous. We know they have made a big difference and we thank them for their Christian spirit.
Catholic Schools Week
If you’ve had time to read through the teachers’ letters you have gotten a feel for ALL that went on at our school during Catholic Schools Week. Beginning with our opening Mass and ending with a lovely faculty luncheon, it was go, go, go and good, good, good!
Bishop Dooher and Father Blaney offered a beautiful Mass on Sunday, January 27 which highlighted the theme “Catholic Schools Light the Way”. In his homily Bishop Dooher reflected on the gift of faith and how lucky we are to have a strong Catholic school and religious education program at St. Jerome parish. We agree and feel equally lucky to have the support of both the bishop and Father Bob who are present at much of what goes on in the St. Jerome community. We offer our thanks to them for helping us “light the way”.
Adorning the walls of our school are hundreds of stars each bearing the name of one of the students. The caption reads, “We are the STARS that Light the Way at St. Jerome School. Truly, every child does light the way and we are glad to recognize and celebrate the gifts the kids share with us every day.
We should build another wall on which to hang stars for all of the parents who made Catholic Schools Week (and every week!) such a terrific experience for the students and staff. The hours that were generously given to decorating the hall, the Open House, the Pancake Lunch, the Book Fair, the Pep Rally, the Ice Cream Social, the Grandparents’ Luncheon, the Talent Show and the Closing Mass and assembly were given from the heart and we are truly grateful. Thank you, also, to the families who donated books from the teachers’ wish lists. It seemed like Christmas all over again!
And as if we hadn’t already had as much fun as we could imagine… along came the Spaghetti Supper! What a heart-warming sight to see so many school families and parishioners together enjoying a delicious meal and each other’s company. Again, our thanks to all the folks who are working to build a strong parish/school community. The good news is there are more of these great nights planned and we hope to see YOU there!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our second “Mr. Jerome Contest” on Saturday, March 29. This family night is POSITIVELY not one to be missed. Join us in supporting the dads who have agreed to provide the entertainment and laughs! Watch for the flyer coming out after vacation.
The BEACH PARTY is scheduled for April 4 from 7-9pm. For new families and old there’ll be oceans of fun for kids of all ages. See you at the shore!
Please make us aware if any St. Jerome student has done something worthy of mention in “Positively”. We delight in their accomplishments both in and out of school and would be happy to share their good deeds with all who read this column.
