Grade 3
May 2008
Classroom teacher: Mrs. Nancy Downey

The children have made great strides in their academic achievements this year and are well prepared for their transition into the fourth grade. Grade 3 has had a wonderful year filled with many accomplishments of which they can be proud.

Throughout the course of the year, the children have been exemplary in being part of a faith-filled community by participating in several community service projects. Initially, Grade 3 earned and donated over $250 to the Patriot Ledger’s annual Lend-A-Hand Program. The children, realizing how fortunate they are, gave generously to those who were in need.

Grade 3 also assisted with the parish Pro-Life Easter basket project. The class organized and decorated the Easter tree with name tags, collected the baskets, and distributed them to the residents of the Colonial Nursing Home. The residents and the students both benefited greatly from this project.

Most recently, the children were entrusted with the responsibility of the Vocation Cross. The cross was placed in the front of the classroom, where the students offered prayers daily for vocations to the priesthood and the religious life.

Besides their work for and commitment to helping others, Grade 3 also enjoyed a year of celebrating birthdays and holidays, parades, school shows, fun art projects, and — who can forget — the custom made pep-rally T-shirts. Grade 3 certainly has SJS pride!
